Mål

Insamling av aerosoler samt 14C-analys för att producera data för att utveckla och validera OA-modulen för att implementeras i 3D kemiska atmosfärsmodellen.

Huvudresultat

Inom SCARP har vi använt mätning av 14_{C i aerosolprov som ett av flera analy-}

tiska verktyg i jakten på insikt om varifrån atmosfäriska aerosoler härstammar (förbränning av fossila bränslen, biomassförbränning eller biogena källor). 14_C-

analysen har skett med acceleratormasspektrometri (14_{C-AMS), som traditionellt}

kräver 1 mg kol, vilket sällan finns tillgängligt i aerosolprov. Inom SCARP har vi slutligen lyckats reducera massdetektionsgränsen till målsättningen 10 µg kol.

En ettårig källbestämningsstudie från insamlingsstationen Vavihill har visat god överensstämmelse mellan mätningarna och EMEP-modellen för fraktionen totalt organiskt kol (OC), undantaget vinterperioden. Modell och mätningar stämde dock inte överens i fråga om den procentuella andelen av de olika OC-källorna. I jämfö- relse med den mätningsbaserade källbestämningen underskattade modellen mar- kant förbränning av biomassa. Vidare underskattades det fossila bidraget under vintern, men överskattades under sommaren.

Nu pågår en uppföljande studie med färre prov valda från perioder med konstant vindriktning. Detta är dels för att se hur källorna beror på luftmassans ursprung men även för att se om modeller skiljer sig mer från mätningarna när luften kom- mer från olika håll. De första resultat visar att kolet till större delen kommer från fossila källor när luften kommer från syd och ost.

Resultatens betydelse för nationellt och internationellt

miljövårdsarbete

Forskningen koordineras med EU FP6 IP EUCAARI och EU FP6 I3 EUSAAR och sedan 2011 EU FP7 ACTRIS, och 14_{C-metodiken har även används på prover från t}

ex Norge och Italien. Intressenter är FORMAS, EU FP6 IP EUCAARI och EU FP6 I3 EUSAAR, CAFE, CLPTAP och svenska EPA. Resultaten är viktiga som be- slutsunderlag rörande utsläppsbegränsningar som motverkar klimatförändring och som är främjande ur hälsoaspekt.
