11th ANNUAL COLORADO CARNATION COMPETITIVE SHOW
For the third successive year the Colorado Carnation Comptitive Show will be held in conjunction with the Annual Garden
&
Home Show in Denver. This will be the 11th Annual Show held locally for Colorado Growers to compete against each other for blue ribbons in ten separate classes of Carnations.The judging for prizes will take place Friday afternoon, February 2, the first day of the Garden & Home Show at Currigan Hall. Following the judging the flowers will remain in the center mall of the exhibit area for display during the entire show. Approximately 115 vases of the best quality carnation in the world will be on display. In addition several new varieties and some outstanding vases of tints will be included in the mall area.
Colorado has a reputation for procucing the finest quality carnations in the world. This reputation goes back to the 1880's when carnation production started in the Denver area because of the ideal weather and growing conditions in Colorado. Presently there is over 8 million square feet of greenhouse glass is cut flower production in Colorado, which is equal to 130 acres of ground area. Over 160 million blooms are exported out of the state to other states and foreign countries each year. Colorado produces 25~ of the total production in the U. S.
