Mr. Earl F. Cross retired as President and Chief Executive Officer of Great Western Sugar Company in 1968 and is presently serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the Great Western United Corporation, the parent organization, located in Denver, Colorado.
Mr. Cross began. his career in flour milling at the age of fourteen as a sweeper after school hours in his home town of Wichita. In 1926, the first year of the Municipal University of Wichita and the College of Business Administration, Mr. Cross was enrolled in Dean Frank Neffs special program which permitted students to attend class six
months and work for six months. While in this program, Cross was assigned to the Kansas Milling Company where he began as a sweeper
and became a bolter, laboratory technician and finally became a
miller. Cross worked for the old Red Star Milling Company in Wichita before that company became a part of a group that formed General
Mills. After several executive positions with General Mills in Chicago and Minneapolis, he became an officer of the Western Star Mill
Company in Salina, Kansas. In 1960 he joined the Colorado Milling
and Elevator Company and became its President and Chief Executive
Officer. In 1967 Mr. Cross became President, Chief Executive Officer, and Director of Great Western Sugar Company after the merger with
Colorado Milling.
Mr. Cross has been active in many civic and professional
organiza-tions including his directorship of the Millers' National Federation. Mr. Cross resides with his wife in Littleton, Colorado.
