ARMSTRONG SPONSORS "YEAR OF WATER" IN SENATE
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- U.S. Sen. Bill Armstrong (R-Colo.) said today he will introduce a resolution proclaiming 1984 the "Year of Water."
U.S. Rep. Ray Kogovsek CD-Colo.) has introduced an identical measure in the House.
"Water is our most precious natural resource," Armstrong said. "It cannot be artifically produced. Water quality, availability and use is of ever-increasing importance in our daily lives and in the future economic development of our country. The 'Year of Water' will provide an opportunity to examine the issues surrounding water use and planning."
Delegates from 79 member nations of the International Congress on Irrigation and Drainage will meet in Fort Collins, Colo., during May and June, 1984, Armstrong said. "The resolution serves as a welcome to those delegates and points out that the U.S. leads the
world in irrigation and drainage technology and scientific achievement," he noted.
The 'Year of Water' will be an "appropriate opportunity for all of us to direct our attention to this essential element of life and the development of plans today to solve the water problems of the future," Armstrong said.
