Abstract
Here we present numerical results and timings obtained using our
quasi-Newton interior point method on a set of 44 systems. We were
not able to include these results in the article due to limited amount of
space. Also results from our evaluation of Hifoo on the same systems
are included.
1 Introduction
The purpose of this report is to provide additional numerical results from the
evaluation of the primal-dual quasi-Newton (QN) method in [1]. The other
method mentioned in the article is Hifoo, see [2] for details. The systems used
in the evaluation are taken from Compl

ib, see [3].
2 Contents
The tables included in this report are as follows.
•
The quasi-Newton primal-dual method (QN): Tables 187, odd numbers.
•
Hifoo: Tables 288, even numbers.
3 Notation
3.1 QN
In the tables for QN (Tables 187, odd numbers), the rst column lists the γ
values, starting with the nominal value for the full order controller, and then
the percentage increase of that value further down the rst column. The other
columns lists the values obtained for the controllers of the order displayed at
the top of the column. A dash (-) means that the corresponding controller was
not calculated and an underlined value in
red
indicates that a controller of that
order was calculated but failed to satisfy the requirements regarding stability,
feasibility etc. These controllers are not counted as successful controllers, e.g.
the QN method cannot nd a zeroth order controller for AC1 within +900%
The bottom part of the tables shows the required time to calculate the
controllers corresponding to the values on the upper part of the tables. At the
bottom row, the total amount of time is summed up for the whole table.
3.2 Hifoo
In the tables for Hifoo (Tables 288), the rst column of the upper part lists
the number of the runs. The other columns list the achieved H
∞
norms, where
numbers corresponding to unstable controllers are written in underlined
red
text. The middle part lists the statistics regarding the achieved H
∞
norm, such
as the minimum value, the maximum value, the mean value, the median value
and the standard deviation. The lower part lists the same statistics, but for the
required time.
4 Calculations
The closed loop system was calculated in Matlab using
K = ss(Ka,Kb,Kc,Kd);
G = ss(A,[B1 B2],[C1;C2],[D11 D12;D21 zeros(ny,nu)]);
Gc = lft(P,K,nu,ny);
where (Ka, Kb, Kc, Kd) are the controller parameters and nu, ny are the
number of inputs and outputs of the system G, respectively. The achieved H
∞
norm was calculated using
norm(Gc,inf,1e-6)
and the required time was calculated using
t = cputime;
to start the stop watch and
t = cputime - t;
to stop it.
