Course analysis template

After the course has ended, the course leader fills in this template. This is an important part of the quality assurance of the programme. The programme director decides whether the

template should be supplemented with further information/questions.

Number of registered students 28

Number passed after regular session 19 (4 groups had revision on consultant report, 1 student had revision on individual reflection and 1 student submitted individual reflection late).

Response rate for course survey (%) 62,96 % (17/27)

Methods for student influence other than course survey

Personal meetings with all students before matching pairs and companies. Introduction lecture, mid-term seminar and oral evaluation at the end; open for changes and suggestions.

Note that…

This analysis shall (together with a summary of the quantitative results of the students course survey) be submitted to the LIME educational committee.

This analysis has been submitted to the LIME educational committee on this date: June 22, 2022

1. Description of any implemented changes since the previous course based on previous students' comments

Due to the changes of situation around the pandemic this year’s students could be going to

the office more and thus spend less time online. When scouting for project I tried to make

sure that the students had an office to go to and that the supervisor would have certain

meeting/weeks with the students face-to-face. I also tried to, during the personal interviews,

find out which students not to pair, to increase the possibilities to get good teamwork.

2. A brief summary of the students' evaluations of the course

(Based on the students' quantitative answers to the course evaluation and comments. Quantitative compilation and possible graphs attached.)

*Most students were happy with the companies and the projects as well as the organisation of the course.

*Very few were not as happy, and this was mostly due to company supervisor not as engaged as expected.

*Many students fulfilled the expectations of having a real-working life experience and to apply knowledge from the program, and to see a working culture.

*Lectures on campus, the students appreciated:

-the intro lecture with guests and real-life examples they talked about.

-mid-term with a chance to hear other projects and challenges and to support each other. It was appreciated to have open discussions about the perception of the places, atmosphere etc.

-the final presentations were also appreciated to hear and learn from the field and being forced to critically evaluate peers report was a good learning experience. Also, to be able to reflect on the learnings.

*Many students expressed satisfaction with support from classmates, supervisors, and course director.

*Communication with and support from the course director was appreciated as well as discussions around anything.

Suggestions from students to improve:

*Would be beneficial with workshops on how to perform interviews properly and analyse them before PP1 starts, perhaps semester 1. Add ethics related to the performing interviews.

*Go through NDAs before the students meet the companies.

*A few students expressed the importance of informing the company supervisor about the program, however that is done in details from the course director when searching for projects.

*Details about each step in the consultant reports, however students did not show up on the drop-in where this was offered.

*A suggestion would be to help students who were not happy with the placement initially to improve situations, however the course director emphasised the importance of coming back and communicating if things did not feel good.

*Write a contract within the group, including both students put in 30h of work and contribute equally.

*Feedback towards companies as part of the survey, this cannot be done since the survey is anonymous, however the course director will reflect if and how this can be done.

See graphs for all evaluation questions in the end of the document.

3. The course-responsible reflection on the course implementation and results

Course strengths:

Generally good companies to work with and they mostly provided interesting projects. The

matching went generally very well, many students happy. Intro was good with the guests.

(3)

Sida 3 av 3 Course analysis template MBE Spring 2022

Mid-term was appreciated as well as final presentation day. Personal meetings before course were good to get to know the students more.

Course weaknesses:

A few company supervisors were not that engaged and were too busy on their own work.

This led to frustration and not feeling part of the company. Ethical aspects/introduction are at the moment not so well included and should be a stronger connection to a workplace and issues that can arise. Also, the students need more information regarding interviews.

4. Other comments

*Interview session, before or as part of in market analysis course, make sure all ethical aspects are brought up (e.g., interview different stakeholders, and not patients).

*NDA session, one month before PP1 starts. Show a few examples.

*Almost no one came to drop-ins, still there were unsure things regarding report etc. Make sure to make a session out of those and perhaps invite a speaker first and then end with a small workshop on different things.

*Reflect if having discussion groups among peers would be a good idea.

5. The course-responsible conclusions and any proposals for changes

(If any changes are proposed, please specify who is responsible for implementing these and a time schedule.)

*Make sure, again, that each supervisor (or a second person) has a strong engagement and have the intension to give X number of meetings etc.

*Group contract could be mandatory and include what to do if conflicts arise among students.

*Have the drop-ins, with tailored check-ins to make sure students are coming. Reflect if it is possible to invite “meet a stakeholder” followed by a workshop.

*Reflect on if students should give feedback to KI about the companies.

*Generally, keep intro, mid-term, and final presentations as they were, maybe extend them timewise to have more time for general discussions.

*If possible, make sure students are prepared before for the professional environment and get introduced to that earlier in the program.

If not possible, do a workshop a few months/weeks before regarding different aspects of this.

Should be planned with other teachers at MBE programme. Specifically:

*How to contact stakeholders

*How to perform and analyse interviews (including ethics)

*What is and how to write NDAs

*Include ethical aspects directed to work in the life science industry

Course director 2022 will be responsible to value how and if the above tasks are suitable.
