Maria Jonson was born in Härnösand, Sweden, 1981 to Lena and Thomas Jonson. In 2009 she graduated from Linköping University with a Master of Science in Engineering, Chemical Biology. She performed her postgraduate studies in Protein Science in the group of Professor Per Hammarström at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology, Linköping University.
