Abstract
The survey aims to find what teachers in active recreation and teacher trainees with specialization in teaching in elementary school know about how the professional role of teacher in active recreation looked like in the past and how it looks today. The survey will also find out what attitude they have towards the professional role of teacher in active recreation. This survey is carried out using qualitative interviews in which same set of questions are used, but are formulated in different ways because some questions can only be asked to teachers in active recreation and vice versa. The respondents in the survey consist of two teachers in active recreation and three primary school teacher trainees. The results are later compared with previous research conducted in the field of the professional role of the teacher in active recreation. The results show that primary school teachers know more about the role of the teachers in active recreation than the teachers in active recreation did. The students are still uncertain what a teachers in active recreation really is, but I can from the interviews, come to the conclusion that they do know. The conclusions are as follows:
Something must be done to improve recreational pedagogues professional role and status so that there is more knowledge of the profession.
