Descriptions of CEMS course categories at SSE
CEMS Core course: These courses are obligatory for all CEMS students. One core course is offered each fall (a global strategy course) and one each spring (a course on global management practices). Both must be completed for graduation.
CEMS Exclusive courses: These courses are accredited as CEMS elective and count towards the CEMS MIM degree. Only CEMS students can take those courses. Knowledge prerequisites may vary and you should ensure that you fulfill necessary
requirements at the time a course begins.
CEMS Elective courses: These courses are accredited as CEMS electives and count towards the CEMS MIM degree. They are also open to other master students at SSE. Knowledge prerequisites may vary and you should ensure that you fulfill necessary requirements at the time a course begins.
CEMS Extension elective courses: These courses provide opportunities for CEMS students to extend their studies into areas beyond international business and international management. These are often advanced graduate courses and as such they require a substantial understanding of the concepts and methods employed in the subject in question. Although they are not in the area of international management per se, they can be highly relevant for the future professional roles of CEMS MIM graduates.
CEMS Hard skill courses: These courses are accredited as CEMS Hard Skill courses. Minimum 5 ECTS from this category of courses are mandatory reequipment for the CEMS program. Hard skills courses emphasize the training of students’ quantitative and computational skills and expertise. The main focus of these courses is not the theoretical/conceptual background of these skills but their application and implementation in preferably real business-decision settings.
Language Courses: These courses do not give you any CEMS credits. However, they can fulfill your language requirements. The Advanced Business language courses can fulfill your Language requirement and all language courses can fulfill the Language 3 requirement.
