From t h e e s t a b l i s h m e n t o f t h e Tanganyika T e r r i t o r y G e o l o g i c a l S u r v e y Department by t h e e n d o f 1 9 2 5 , s y s t e m a t i c a l g e o l o g i c a l i n v e s t i g a t i o n s w e r e c a r r i e d o u t i n t h e c o u n t r y by t h i s i n s t i t u - t i o n and t h e i r r e s u l t s w e r e i s s u e d i n a s e r i e s of government p u b l i c a t i o n s . Annual R e p o r t s w e r e i s s u e d u n d e r t h e a u t h o r s h i p of t h e G e o l o g i c a l S u r v e y Department f r o m 1926 t o 1934. I n 1934 t h e Department o f Lands and Mines was e s t a b l i s h e d and t h e work of t h e G e o l o g i c a l S u r v e y was t a k e n o v e r by t h e new G e o l o g i c a l D i v i s i o n w h i c h i s s u e d t h e r e p o r t s from 1935 t o 1949. The Geolo- g i c a l D i v i s i o n was r e o r g a n i z e d i n 1950 and became t h e Geologi- c a l Survey Department a g a i n . From t h e e s t a b l i s h m e n t o f t h e S u r v e y o n , t h e g e o l o g i c a l p u b l i - c a t i o n s w e r e i s s u e d a s B u l l e t i n s and S h o r t P a p e r s . From 1942 t h e S u r v e y i s s u e d t y p e s c r i p t - r e p o r t s u n d e r t h e h e a d i n g M i n e r a l R e s o u r c e s P a m p h l e t s which were d e v o t e d t o t h e g e o l o g y of m i n e r a l d e p o s i t s . They w e r e i s s u e d i n 66 volumes t i l l 1 9 5 2 . The S u r v e y a l s o p u b l i s h e d a l i m i t e d s e r i e s o f P a m p h l e t s o f more g e n e r a l cha- r a c t e r on economic g e o l o g y . A s e r i e s of Memoirs was p r e p a r e d i n 1956.

The S u r v e y - s t a f f p r e p a r e d o v e r t h e y e a r s a g r e a t number of un- p u b l i s h e d o p e n - f i l e r e p o r t s on t h e g e o l o g y of T a n g a n y i k a ' s mine- r a l d e p o s i t s which a r e n o t i n c l u d e d i n t h e p r e s e n t b i b l i o g r a p h y .
