This dissertation combines literacy, comics and discursive psychology to investigate naturally occurring classroom interaction, in which participants construct comics literacy. Exploring concepts such as narrative structure, literacy discourses, and comics literary devices, the dissertation argues for establishing comics literacy as a theoretical aspect of reading and designing comics in educational practices. This contributes an important tool for comics studies, as well as opening up a discussion around comics as a material in schools.
