Restless legs syndrome (RLS) and Obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS) are two common sleep disorders that affect daily life with symptoms such as sleepiness and tiredness. It was therefore hypothesised that the skeletal muscle could be affected as symptoms from skeletal muscle are common.
This doctorial thesis elucidates skeletal muscle involvement in RLS and OSAS patients. These two syndromes are accompanied by changes in skele-tal muscle and physical fitness level. The findings indicate that hypoxia may be present in the muscle cell probably contributing to the symptoms such as fatigue. It is also suggested that physical training may relief symptoms.
