Course analysis template

After the course has ended, the course leader fills in this template. This is an important part of the quality assurance of the programme. The programme director decides whether the

template should be supplemented with further information/questions.

Methods for student influence other than course survey

Brought up in the introduction their possibilities of continuous feed-back during course. Course evaluation as well.

Note that…

This analysis shall (together with a summary of the quantitative results of the students’ course survey) be submitted to the LIME educational committee.

Sida 2 av 3 Course analysis MBE Fall 2022

1. Description of any implemented changes since the previous course based on previous students' comments

The course has this year only one examination form, that is the written exam, however the last years project where run as workshops instead to practise these methods.

2. A brief summary of the students' evaluations of the course

(Based on the students' quantitative answers to the course evaluation and comments.

Quantitative compilation and possible graphs attached.) Summary of comments on things that were good:

*The workshops- to practise the theory

*Discussions and presentations in class

*Scrum lecture was good and concise

*Knowledgeable lecturers and appreciated teachers

*Content was structured, nice and easy to follow

*Canvas included valuable information

*The modules on canvas gave a very good introduction to project management

*The atmosphere in the class during the workshops

*Good that we had enough time to study for the exam

Summary of suggestions or comments of what could be improved:

*Format of exam more essay-based questions or a project

*Do a real-life situation project during workshops (a life science case they could work on)

*Project should be more bioentreprenurial

*Different part to work on in the groups

*Smaller groups (now 6 student/group)

*Textbook difficult to grasp sometimes, to little explanation

*More practise on methods

*Too theoretical, more practical experiences

*Scrum lecture later in the course and add workshop on that

*Change groups every workshop

*Dissatisfaction regarding atmosphere were related to less engaged classmates and not the teacher

As a summary, as always student have different opinions. Overall good but maybe change the

workshop content and include even more exercises, now 4 workshops á 3h. One can see on

the quantitative evaluation that students were not always satisfied, see further down. Think

about exam format as well.

3. The course-responsible reflection on the course implementation and results I think it was overall good. It was flipped classroom and blended learning. The theory

lectures were on canvas as videos available for the students all the time, this was followed by interactive workshops.

Maybe do the workshop even more life-science oriented and split the tasks for different groups, to get to test even more methods. Develop a project that they can work on or a project to be used later in the programme.

As a teacher I think the exam went well but I can see the pros and cons with a written exam and the value with a project instead. However, they will do a lot of projects later in the program having a chance to put the theory into practise. This is a short course and cannot include all.

Course strengths:

The build up with theory on canvas, both as text and videos. The practical sessions on-site.

The structure is clear and easy to follow. Enough time for own study.

Course weaknesses:

The workshop did not make all students satisfied, so develop that one to include more methods. The course is short, why it is also difficult to include more parts.

4. Other comments

Quite many students answered the survey, good. Still the quantitative part had mean values that were low and when reading the comments, it was still quite satisfied students.

5. The course-responsible conclusions and any proposals for changes

Overall, I am quite satisfied. Time needs to put into reflection if the examination parts should be changed again to another type. Also, how the workshop could maybe be transformed to a more “useful” project. I, however, think, there was a good balance between parts. I feel like taking away the project work from 2021 gave students of 2022 way less stress, however, some students this year were asking for a project.

It will be 2022s course director’s responsibility to make changes after reflecting and talking

to the program director.
