anna göthlin eremo received a Master of Science degree with a major in Biomedicine from Örebro University in 2008. During her Master thesis, she was recruited to the School of Health and Medical Sciences, Örebro University as Ph.D. student to start research in the breast cancer field. Parallel with her Ph.D. thesis she has been working part-time as a lecturer and course organizer in tumor biology at the Medical and Biomedicine programs at Örebro University. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, with approximately 8000 diagnoses in Sweden every year. The majority of all breast tumors are hormone receptor positive, where tamoxifen is one of the predominant anti hormonal treatment options. Tamoxifen blocks the estrogen receptor, which results in reduced cell growth. However, several women suffer from tumor recurrence due to tamoxifen resistance and the identification of novel biological markers involved in recurrence and survival has been the focus of this Ph.D. thesis. The findings presented herein are based on the investigation of female breast tumor tissue and concerns proteins and genes that may be important for treatment outcome. In a future perspective, increased knowledge of tamoxifen resistance may lead to improved personalized treatment and hence survival for patients with endocrine breast cancer.
