Örebro Studies in Medicine 14 örebro 2008 Jakob Walldén Jakob Walldén (date of birth 1968)
re-ceived an M.D. degree in 1994 from Karolinska Institutet in Sweden and did his training in anesthesia from 1996 to 2001 at Örebro University Hospital. He is now a consul-tant anesthesiologist at Sundsvall Hospital. The research for his doctoral thesis was done in Professor Magnus Wattwil’s research group at Örebro University Hospital. After surgical procedures and/or anesthesia it is common for motility in the stomach and intestines to be inhibited, leading to prolonged recovery and patient discomfort. The causes are multifactorial, with opioid drugs being one of the major factors. This doctoral thesis explores specifi c effects of opioid drugs on stomach motility. Based on experimental studies in volunteers and clinical studies in patients, new knowledge is provided in this fi eld.
