A check list compiled by Grichanor, (in press) has included about 320 species of long-legged flies (Dolichopodidae) known in the Swedish 1auna. Sone species hrve been recordccl lbr

Sweden for the first time. This paper gives detai- led dist bution data fbt those species. They have been iclentified by the llrst authol rs a result of lllc lreating of about seven thousand unsorlccl dolichopodid specimcns collected rnainly during lhe last 40 yea$ by R. Danielssorr and H. In Swe- den adults rnd lrrvac ol rlmost al1 species ol' long legged flies arc predato$ inhabiting rnoist sLrbstrata. Snrall-sizcd spccics may be sapro phages in the larval stage. Species of only one genus (Ifu'tTrtft as) arc known to be phyhphages living inside stems ofcereal grasses. Most ofthe

numerous species of the cosnlopolitaD genus Mcdetero irre associated with tree trunks, especi-

pledacious mainly on bark beetles (Coleoptera).

Dolicltoltu.s i\nd Herc:ostonlus species are con't nlon on grllss at small puddles and along tivulets in deciduous fbrests and meaclows.
