Innehåll och syfte:
The module Smycke 2 has as a starting point a critical investigation of the contexts of jewellery, both existing and potential. This year we will focus on notions of crisis, change, care and responsibility, and consider specific contexts to respond to through our jewellery practices.
Few questions kick off the investigation: What happens if we widen our own perspective as makers and artists to more actively consider and invite other actors in our process as essential thinking partners? How do we expand our artistic position, beyond ideas of self-reliance?
Each participant will develop and execute an individual, practice-based jewellery project. Letting us be inspired by selected literature and case studies, by discussions and questions, and by the
particular surroundings of each individual jewellery project, we will begin to form an understanding of the potential of our practices and of jewellery as subject in the present social, economic and cultural landscape. The aim is to formulate and materialise a jewellery work, that explores the complex relationship that exists between body – object – place – material resources, and that probes possible scenarios for jewellery to inhabit, with a focus on what possibilities and questions jewellery can offer, particularly in a time marked by instability and change.
Struktur:
The module Smycke 2 will start with hands-on research in the first week (w. 3) and discussions with teachers and classmates. All activities in week 3 are aimed at generating relevant material and observations that will support the formulation of an individual project with focus on jewellery. From here, each student will develop their project independently, regularly discussing the progress of their projects with the teachers through individual tutorials.
Students will present their final, fully resolved individual projects at the end of the course in Seminariegatan 2, with the main tutors and the class present. Relevant parts of the artistic process
and documentation will also be presented on the final presentation. An exhibition of the course outcomes will thus take place in Semiariegatan from 12-19/02.
Active participation in group activities, discussions, presentations and tutoring is a mandatory requirement of the course.
Examinationsform:
Ongoing presentation of the work process through tutoring with teachers. Active participation to all meetings, discussions and the presentation scheduled in week 3, and to all other activities planned as part of the course. Final presentation in which the student verbally presents a fully resolved artistic jewellery project. Together with the final project/work, also relevant parts of the work process and documentation are presented. Exhibition of course outcomes in Seminariegatan 2 from 12-19/02.
Literatur:
A selection of texts will be provided at the beginning of the module.
