fredrik alm has been a registered nurse since 2007 and a registered nurse anesthetist since 2011. He began his PhD studies in 2016 at Örebro University under the supervision of the associate professor Elisabeth Ericsson. Tonsil surgery is one of the most common surgical pro-cedures in children. The two main indications for tonsil surgery are upper airway obstruction related to tonsil-lar hypertrophy, and infection-related problems such as recurrent tonsillitis. This surgery is associated with several health benefits and improved quality of life. However, a child undergoing tonsil surgery is emotionally and physically affected throughout the process, not least post-operatively affected by pain and pain-related complications. The operation is commonly performed as day surgery, meaning that the postoperative care is transferred to the child and caregivers; this places significant demands on families to manage varied conditions. This thesis uses qualitative and quantitative research methods to explore varied perspectives of the recovery process following pediatric tonsil surgery, with a focus on postoperative pain and pain management at home.
