Do you want your child to have Mother tongue lessons?
The Education act chapter 10 §7 says that
”A student who has a guardian with another mother tongue than Swedish shall be offered mother tongue teaching in that language if
1. the language is the student’s daily language at home, and 2. the student has basic knowledge in the language
Mother tongue teaching in a national minority language shall be offered even if the language is no the student’s daily language at home.
The government or the authority the government decides may issue regulations on mother tongue teaching. Such regulations may mean that mother tongue teaching should be offered in a language only if a certain number of students wish for education in the language.”
Entitled to have the mother tongue teaching is the student who speaks the language with any of the guardians. The teaching is voluntary and is sometimes given after school. Mother tongue teaching is important for the development of the student.
