Over recent decades, overweight and obesity have increased throughout the world. This unprecedented development has been described as an ”obesity epidemic” in some countries. At present, in order to achieve long-term sustainable results, surgery is the most effective treatment for morbid obesity. The aim of this thesis has been to understand and improve the long-term effects of bariatric surgery (gastric bypass) on quality-of-life and bone mineral density.
