To address the challenges of information asymmetry, counter-feits, and lack of transparency in the supply chain, this study follows a system-of-systems approach and contributes toward the development of a secured traceability system for the textile and clothing (T&C) sector. It examines traceability implemen-tation at the product and information levels. For the former, the thesis introduces a secured traceability tag for textiles, which is hard to copy and can withstand washing and abrasion. Further, the thesis empir-ically explores and classifies traceability information that can be shared at the business-to-business and business-to-customer levels. Subsequently, it proposes a blockchain-based framework for implementing information traceability in the T&C supply chain.

The work was undertaken under the framework of the Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate Program, “Sustainable Management and Design for Textile” (SMDTex), which is funded by the European Commission and the Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC). This thesis falls under the scope of Textile Management, which is one of the three subjects in the area of Textile and Fashion research and education at the University of Borås. Three universities: ENSAIT/University of Lille, France (1st mobility, 18 months); University of Borås, Sweden (2nd mobility, 18 months); and Soochow University, China (3rd mobility, 12 months), were involved in this joint doctoral program.
