Description: Apterous uioipatous lemale \l'ig. 1). Body spindle-shaped.

black or fuscous. Tergum alnost completely membranous. In cleared speci- mens, black or fuscous pigmentation is present on head, antennal segmenls

I, \', \'I and apices of III and I\', apical segments of rostrum, corae, femora (except basal lll-116i, apices of tibiae, tarsi, peritremes, "pteural" inter- segmental scleroiles, siphunculi, cauda, anal plate and subgenital plate.

A series of unpaired spinal pigmented spots is present on the thoracal and abdominal terga in many specimens but there is much individual variation in this detail, the spots of abd. segments \.I, \'II and YIII and of mesonotum being larger and more constantly present than those on lhe remaining se8- ments u'here they, if present, are often divided into smaller components.

Head with median frontal tubercle fairly well developed. Length of antennae about 3/7 of bod)' length. Length of processus terminalis about 3X that of basis of antennal segment VI (F'ig. 3). Antennal hairs with fine apices, longest hair on segment III about 1.2X basal diameter of lhe same segment (Fig.2).

Dorsal bodv hairs fine-pointed, comparativel)- long, the longest (on abdomi- nal segments YII and 1'III) a little more than 3X basal diameter of ante ral segment III. Also femora and tibiae with partly fairly long hairs. tr{ost ab- dominal segments (I-\rII) with smalt marginal tubercles but a complete sel

is rarely present. Rostrum short, not reaching 2nd coxae, terminal segmenl (Fig. 4) cordifomr, about half as long as 2nd joint of hind tarsus, with 2 pairs of secondary hairs. 8th abdominal tergum \yith .l---6 hairs. Siphunculi (Fig.

directed to Longiunguis donacis (Pass.), a lUediterranean species, but our insect differs from donacis by its relativety longer processus terminalis and the proportions of the antennal segments (cf. Sharma, 1966, p. 91) and by the shape of the cauda. The tergal pigmentation patlern is strikingly similar in both species. No E'ax secretion was obsen'ed in our malerial. Theobald (191E, pp. 289-290) described llgnlo2r?rus insignis l.: Longiunguis dorurcis)

as partlv covered with white farinose matter producing a characteristic pattern.
