Commentary/Clarification

The BART method presented in the thesis was first described in

[1] S. Ekelin and M. Nilsson, “Continuous monitoring of available bandwidth over a network path,” in Proc. 2nd Swedish National Computer Networking Workshop, 2004.

This idea was further explored and validated in

[2] S. Ekelin, M. Nilsson, E. Hartikainen, A. Johnsson, J.-E. Mångs, B. Melan- der, and M. Björkman, “Real-time measurement of end-to-end available bandwidth using Kalman filtering,” in Proc. 10th IEEE/IFIP Network Operations and Management Symposium, 2006,

co-authored by the original inventors, the author of the thesis, and four other authors according to above. To give the reader unacquainted with BART a more comprehensive view, [2], in which the original idea [1] is duly refer- enced, was used in the thesis and successive papers.

The presentation of BART in the thesis (i.e. Part I) is however mainly based on

which covers [2] as well as topics from several subsequent papers, and is the

most elaborated publication to date regarding the presentation of BART.
