wisim jamil Swedish Iraqi, received his Degree of Master of Science in Medicine from Linköping University, Sweden, in 2013. After that, he started his postgraduate training and dermatology residency at Örebro University. During this time, he started his PhD project on Hand Eczema supervised by professor Magnus Lindberg and docent Laura von Kobyletzki.
Hand eczema is a common occupational skin disease. Hairdressers, nurses, metal workers and office workers have an increased risk of developing HE. Patch test is a diagnostic procedure used to confirm or exclude the role of a causative allergen as being responsible for hand eczema. However, the majority of patients undergoing patch testing forgot their results, and this was associated with a long period of time elapsing after patch testing, the number of allergens, and being male. We found that, irrespective of patch test results and how well allergens were recalled, there is no association with better health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Patients are still reporting concerns about their work, which may be attributed to difficulties in finding avoidance strategies at their workplaces. Regularly using HRQoL measure, as the dermatology life quality index, to monitor patients, would be beneficial to predict the exacerbation of hand eczema.
