The Research School for Clinicians in Epidemiology at KI. A special thanks to the study director Gabriella Bröms, for being educational and inspiring. I enjoyed every moment of research school! And my study colleagues and friends for life Louise Ziegler and Eva Nordendahl. What would I have done without you during this doctoral project. I’m forever grateful for your support, encouragement, and the way we learn things together. One of the things I miss with not living in Stockholm is having research dinners with you.

My former colleagues at Karolinska University Hospital, no one mentioned, no one forgotten. Thanks for sharing the journey of combining clinical work with research and private life. Tumör-kirurgerna for the help with including study participants for study IV and sharing of your great knowledge about gynecologic tumor surgery. Your level of ambition is admiring, I enjoyed working with all of you. All colleagues and friends at the maternity ward, for being a group friendly and caring doctors. A special thanks to Sissel Saltvedt, for not only being my mentor during residency but also giving me great support during the work with this Ph.D. project. My Copenhagen gang, even though we are spread apart, you are close to my heart. Strong, smart, and fun women with big hearts. For all the good times and sometime hard times we shared during the years of med.school, I’m forever thankful for spending them with you.

Maren Stolp Andersen, your caring for everyone around you, is admirable. Even if the Corona pandemic has kept us apart you are never further than a phone call away. Thank you for being the best friend and a special thanks for your support and encouragement during the work with this thesis. Mari Øines, for your positive energy, always ready for a new

adventure, I can’t wait to climb new mountains with you. Hanna Johansson, my study mate, there wasn’t one exam we didn’t study for together and there wasn’t one day spent without a laughter. Although there might be some recall bias, I remember those days as so much fun.

Carro and Lucia, for all wounder full times at your dinner table and for always having a room for me when I’m in Stockholm and for looking after Loui when I’m at meetings. You are one of a kind. Ralle for giving me energy and laughter, sharing good and bad times.

My sisters (although not related). Caroline Linder, I have known you for all my life and there are few people that know me the way you do. I am so grateful for our friendship. Thank you for always being there, for all wise words and for the endless support in everything in life. Thank you for all fun times and great memories. Lotta Jansson, crazy, funny and loving. You have a unique ability to make things fun and there is nothing you can’t laugh about. With that said you are also extremely smart and most important you are always there, supporting and caring and finding solutions.

The whole Fredriksson family, for all good times and your fundamental mindset of never seeing a problem. Carina and Peter for your help and support during the work with this thesis, making life easier for our family. For being so warmhearted and caring and the best grandparents one could ever wish for. The way you enjoy life is inspiring.

My father, Sverre. I wish everyone could have a father like you. You are love and wisdom personified. Thank you for always believing in me and your conviction that there is nothing I can’t do and for always, always being there, in good times and more difficult times. Your daily practical help during the time of finishing this thesis has been invaluable. Thanks for all endless love and support and for being a loving and fun grandfather to Loui.

My mother, Marianne. The kindness herself. During my whole life you have always giving me your endless love and you have taught me the most important things in life of being humble, kind, and empathetic. Your confidence in my ability is unshakable, it doesn’t matter if I aim to run a marathon or climb a mountain or cross a desert or finish a Ph.D project, your faith in me is doubtless. Thank you for your love and support and for being a loving

grandmother for Loui.

My sister Christin and my brother Simon, as our parents you are filled with kindness and love, and I admire you both for being such great warmhearted persons. Thank you for always being honest and loving and for your support in everything I do. My brother-in-law Magnus, although probably the strongest man in western Sweden you are also the most kind-hearted man in western Sweden. Thank you for reading my thesis the weekend before deadline and coming with valuable comments. Thea, for being so genuine, lovely and for caring for everyone, all my boys and all my sisters’ boys, “super-aunty”.

My beloved family, all my boys. Alex and Wille being your “bonusmamma” is a huge gift.

My heart is filled with love for you. Loui, the glue of the family, the world took on new dimensions when you were born. Your eyes are sparkling with energy, love and happiness and my heart is sparkling with love to you and infinite gratitude for being your mother.

Oscar, the love of my life. Not a day goes by without me feeling immense gratitude for getting to spend my life with you, not a minute goes by without me loving you. Thank you for all love and support during the work with this doctoral project and all technical support during the writing of this thesis.
