Trots att det finns forskning både om hur patienter med BPD upplever omvårdnad och sjuksköterskors erfarenhet av att vårda denna patientgrupp så fortsätter vården av olika anledningar att vara komplex. Ett förslag på vidare forskning är att fokusera på
sjuksköterskors och resterande vårdpersonals upplevelser och erfarenheter av vad stödjande omvårdnad för patienter med BPD består av. På så sätt kan samstämmighet med patienters upplevelser uppmärksammas och de erfarenheter som skiljer sig åt mellan vårdpersonal och patienters erfarenheter av vad som anses stöttande tydliggöras.
Att intervjua patienter via öppenvårdsmottagningar skulle kunna innebära att även patienter som inte tar plats i sociala medier och som inte har lätt för sig att utrycka sig skulle kunna identifieras. Likaså skulle manliga patienter kunna få möjlighet att delge sina erfarenheter.
