Det finns behov av mer kvalitativ forskning om barns upplevelser av icke- farmakologiska metoder vid procedursmärta, för att få större kunskap om deras effektivitet och användningsområde. Speciellt forskning kring anpassning av miljön relaterat till barns
smärtupplevelser är av betydelse. Det finns även behov av mer kvalitativ forskning om barnsjuksköterskor och sjuksköterskors upplevelse av att använda icke- farmakologiska metoder till barn vid procedursmärta och särskilt forskning riktad mot barn i två till tre års ålder. Den forskning som redan finns, bör också göras mer tillgänglig för sjuksköterskor, eftersom tidigare forskning visar att det finns kunskapsluckor vad gäller kunskaper om och användandet av icke- farmakologiska metoder vid smärta hos barn. Genom att exempelvis låta sjuksköterskor få inplanerad tid i schemat för kompetensutveckling och kunskapssökande kan kunskapen hos personalen utvecklas.
