Studien har endast undersökt svenska fotbollsföreningar, vilket dels begränsar möjligheten att generalisera resultatet till andra idrotter och dels begränsar homogeniteten i urvalet. För framtida forskning skulle det av denna anledning vara intressant att genomföra samma studie inom andra idrotter än fotboll och därigenom bringa klarhet i hur utbrett CSR är inom hela den svenska idrottsvärlden samt vilka effekter det har på prestationen. Vidare skulle det, i syfte att skapa en större homogenitet och jämförbarhet mellan studieobjekten, vara intressant att genomföra samma studie inom flera olika idrotter samtidigt och fokusera på förslagsvis de högsta ligorna alternativt de största klubbarna inom varje idrott. Genom detta tillvägagångssätt skulle det vara möjligt att studera föreningar med liknande förutsättningar och organisationer vilket skulle göra resultaten än mer intressanta, tillförlitliga och jämförbara. Detta kan ses som ett intressant forskningsområde med beaktande av att Gelbemann et al., (2010) samt Sen och Cowley (2013) menar att små- och medelstora organisationer har svårt att själva se och utnyttja sina CSR-kvalitéer samt att dessa känner ett mindre ansvar för CSR jämfört med större organisationer. Ett urval enbart bestående av större idrottsföreningar hade därmed kunnat ge bättre förutsättningar gällande homogenitet och på så sätt varit en intressant inriktning för framtida forskning.

Utöver ovanstående förslag på framtida forskning, som i huvudsak rör urvalet av studieobjekt, kan givetvis en liknande studie utföras men med användandet av andra prestations- och strukturbegrepp samt ett annat angreppssätt på CSR. En möjlig inriktning, som även föreslås av Sheth och Babiak (2010), är att studera CSR och sambandet till sportslig prestation inom idrottsföreningar i form av andel vunna matcher, tabellplacering eller kvalificering till slutspel. Sportslig prestation har i denna studie behandlats som kontrollvariabel men skulle med fördel kunna behandlas djupare i framtida studier. En annan begränsning i studien har varit avsaknaden av djup och detaljerad information om föreningarna och således framstår genomförandet av en kvalitativ studie som intressant. Genom ett kvalitativt tillvägagångssätt hade man istället för att kvantifiera och fokusera på mängden data kunnat djupdyka ner i ett fåtal idrottsorganisationer och därmed skapa detaljkunskap inom enstaka fokusområden. Resultaten av en sådan studie hade sedan kunnat jämföras med resultaten av denna studie och således hade man skapat en bred kunskapsbas kring CSR och dess koppling till prestation inom svensk idrott.
