Om studien hade pågått under en längre period hade det funnits möjlighet att intervjua fler respondenter och på så sätt fått ett mer övergripande resultat. Det är även möjligt att vi missat insikter och tankar som de deltagare vi intervjuade i denna studie inte själva tänkte på. Sättet som studien utfördes på är en annan del som hade kunnat förbättras eller göras annorlunda. I början av arbetet hade vi planerat att implementera karaktärerna i ett spel eller interaktiv text för att tydliggöra spelsammanhanget och undersöka om det hade påverkat synen på karaktärerna, vilket hade kunnat genomföras om arbetet hade pågått under en längre tid. Som studien ser ut nu finns det inget som tyder på att karaktärerna kommer ifrån ett spel annat än att vi berättar detta för respondenterna. Om deltagarna hade fått se karaktärerna och uppleva scenen på ett interaktivt sätt hade resultatet potentiellt kunnat se annorlunda ut. Williams m.fl. (2009) nämner att uppfattningen av karaktärer kan skilja sig beroende på om karaktären är datorstyrd eller kontrollerad av en mänsklig spelare. I vår artefakt kan man inte interagera med karaktärer som spelare kan i spel, därför blir alla karaktärer på ett sätt ”lika” varandra då respondenterna interagerade med karaktärer på samma sätt, även om det var spelbara eller icke-spelbara karaktärer; enbart genom att läsa om vad som händer.

Upplägget för undersökningen skulle även kunna ses som ett förslag på hur man kan skapa transkaraktärer som anses positiva av transpersoner, genom att helt enkelt fråga den marginaliserade gruppen om deras åsikter för en specifik karaktär, så som var fallet vid skapandet av Krem (Dragon Age: Inquisition, 2014). Detta hade kunnat vara nyttigt då det finns bristande representation av transpersoner i spel, speciellt sådan som fått positiv respons av personer som själva har transerfarenhet, och vilka kan vara bättre lämpade att svara på huruvida representation av transpersoner är positiv eller negativ än transpersoner själva? För framtida studier anser vi även att det hade varit intressant att undersöka den andra sidan av publiken, det vill säga att pröva en liknande studie som ämnar att se hur folk utanför HBTQ-spektrumet tolkar transkaraktärer. På det viset hade vi fått veta hur karaktärerna hade mottagits, istället för att bara höra spekulationer från hur våra respondenter trodde att karaktärerna skulle uppfattas, av icke-HBTQ-personer. Det kan vara så att folk som motsätter sig inkluderingen av transkaraktärer är de som hörs mest, och därför skulle man kunna få en skev bild på hur stor andel av populationen som skulle vara emot representationen av transkaraktärer i spel. Vi anser därför att det hade varit intressant att se hur motståndet för representation av transperson egentligen ser ut. Detta hade enligt oss varit användbart för spelutveckling i stort då det finns en risk att utvecklare utesluter transkaraktärer i rädsla att de ska förlora en stor del av sin publik, och därav stor del av sin inkomst. Det hade även varit intressant att fortsätta i det spåret och undersöka vad hos företagen som ligger bakom bristen på transkaraktärer, om det är på grund av risken att förlora spelare eller för att de är rädda att skapa representation som skulle anses vara skadlig.

Såsom Williams m.fl. (2009) skriver så är spel ett medium som i USA är en mer populär underhållningsform än television. Eftersom spel har en så stor räckvidd så borde det undersökas vidare hur relationen mellan spel och representation samverkar men även hur det påverkar samhället.

- Färdig exempelscen för Lulu

Lulu and Lily had never seen that many butterflies as they did right now at the Butterfly Oasis. The spot had made itself worthy of being called a kingdom, with the neverending sound of paperthin wings fluttering in the hot summer air. Fireflies were making their way out as well, as the sun set over the garden.

“We could really use some help” Lily said when some of the butterflies gathered around them. “We’re looking for our sister Lola, and it’s getting dark” Lulu filled in.

One of the butterflies, one with a beautifully intricate pattern of blue and gold swirling on its wings, looked at Lulu and smiled.

“Anything for a fellow butterfly, of course!” she chirped.

“Oh no, I’m not a butterfly!” Lulu assured them, shaking her head. Another butterfly, this one in translucent green and silver, gave Lulu a good look before nodding.

“She doesn’t have wings, but she has the aura of transformation.”

“Oh, you’re right! I could have sworn she was a butterfly” the first butterfly excused herself. “Well, butterfly or not, her heart is like ours.” The green and silver butterfly smiled at Lulu, who grinned back.

The old hospital lays darkened, with only the occasional lightning strike painting the mint green walls white for a split second at a time. The rain pours down on the other side of the barred windows as John makes his way down the corridor. He’s holding the flashlight in a tight grip. The storm has put out the electricity and the last thing he wants is to fumble around in the dark. He stops immediately when he sees the silhouette, crouched down where the corridor splits in two. He gets closer with caution. The figure seems to be hunched over something and when he points his flashlight towards the shadow he can spot blood dripping from the shiny steel of a surgical knife. Then he notices the badly applied makeup running down the man’s face when he faces John.

He’s dressed in rags that once must have been rather nice women’s clothes, now ill-fitting on his thin but still tall figure. He blinks in the harsh light from the flashlight in John’s hand. Then he turns back to the heap on the floor in front of him and slides the doctor’s robe off of the figure. He put it on but let the sleeves fall down the bony and wide shoulders. Then he turns to John again and flashes a smile. John can feel his hands going cold, as if all of his blood has rushed to his legs, ready to make a run for it if he has to.

“Hello, sweetie.” The patient’s voice is hoarse and effeminate, or rather, mimicking. It sounds like a mockery to John, but he recognizes the man now.

“Hey, I know you…” The patient smiles wider at John’s words and he tilts his head, letting the blondish grey hair fall on his shoulder.

“Oh, yeah? Well, I’d like to get to know you.” It sends a chill up John’s neck.

“You’re Doctor Johnson’s patient, Frank.” John swore he only as much as blinked but in the next second the man in front of him seemed to have been replaced completely. Frank gripped the surgical knife tighter in his fist as he rose to his feet. His gait was uneven, maybe because of the, too small, heels digging into his heels. John avoids Frank’s arm lashing out towards him by just a few inches.
