Uppsatsens datainsamling skedde mitt under brinnande valrörelse, vilket troligen haft inverkan på det insamlade materialet. En styrka med valet av denna period är att det var en tid då väldigt många människors blickar var riktade mot Trumps Twitterkommunikation, och att den då hade stor medial genomslagskraft. Samtidigt bestod en betydande andel tweetar mest av information som till exempel var nästa valmöte skulle hållas. Det kan ha bidragit till att inte fler än 67 av de insamlade 390 tweetarna bidrog till att fylla ”vi” och ”dom” med innehåll. Att det inte var fler kan också bero på att Trump ju närmare valet kom valde att satsa på att locka röster bland väljare som stod längre ifrån honom politiskt, snarare än hans kärnväljare som kan antas dela hans politiska problemformulering. Ur dessa aspekter finns det ett behov av en jämförande studie som skulle kunna samla in tweetar under en jämförbar period en tid efter valet och som analyserar huruvida Trump ändrat sin retorik efter att ha blivit USA:s president.
En annan aspekt som återstår att undersöka är hur Donald Trumps politiska kommunikation på Twitter skiljer sig från den kommunikation som hans politiska motståndare producerar på Twitter och andra sociala medier. Vilket innehåll för signifikanterna ”vi” och ”dom” konstruerar denna proteströrelse och dess företrädare? Kanske bidrar de med ett annat sätt att beskriva samhället där andra flytande signifikanter sätts i fokus? Vilket innehåll fylls i så fall dessa med, och vilken politisk konfliktlinje bidrar de till att måla upp? Dessa frågeställningar skulle kunna utgöra en grund en grund för framtida forskning.
