Framtida studier bör undersöka skillnader i fysisk prestation inomhus och utomhus vid högintensiva aktiviteter. Ett maxpulstest kan istället genomföras på en cykelergometer inomhus och utomhus, för att undvika att vindhastighet och temperatur begränsar prestationen. Det bör även tillämpas blodprover som mäter laktatkoncentrationen i blodet för att få ett fysiologiskt mått på den fysiska prestationen.
