Att arbeta brottsförebyggande med variabeln mobilitet skulle kunna göras på en rad olika plan. Dels som förebyggande åtgärd för befintliga bostadsområden eller delområden, exempelvis genom att göra det mer attraktivt att stanna i samma område, och dels som en variabel att ta i beaktning vid byggandeet av nya bostadsområden som en del av stadsplanering. Detta skulle i sådana fall kunna inkluderas i som en del i CPTED eller andra program där målet är att förhindra brott genom att forma omgivningen för att göra den mindre krimonogen (Crowe, 2000). Mobilitet som variabel kan därmed vara av intresse för städer och
kommuner vilken kan användas både direkt för att exempelvis identifiera riskområden för brottslighet, men även som en del i det brottsförebyggande arbetet.

Mobilitet som variabel kan ligga till grund för forskning inom en rad olika områden. För att öka validiteten gällande sambandet mellan mobilitet och olika brottstyper skulle fler brottstyper kunna användas såväl som fler delområden över en längre tidsperiod och i andra städer än just Malmö. Detta skulle också kunna kopplas till nya frågor som exempelvis om mobilitetens påverkan är den samma eller om den skiljer sig beroende på stad eller område. Mobilitetens påverkan skulle också kunna mätas mot andra variabler än just brottslighet såsom
exempelvis psykiskt och fysiskt välmående26, något som skulle kunna göras om det gjordes tillägg till den befintliga datan.
Då informell social kontroll kan mätas med mer precision desto lägre nivåer som används skulle med fördel informell social kontroll kunna mätas på mindre nivåer än delområdesnivå. Med fördel skulle detta kunna mätas på kvartersnivå eller ännu mindre (Groff, Weisburd, & Yang, 2010; Taylor, Gottfredson, & Brower, 1984). Detta skulle även göra att skillnaderna i population mellan de olika
områdena skulle minskas och där med att kunna ge en mer tydlig bild av nivån av informell social kontroll (Geerken & Gove, 1977).
Att studera mobilitet över en längre tidsperiod än just 2009-2013 kan också vara av intresse för framtida forskning. Wilson (1987) och Gramlich, Laren och Sealand (1992) menar att mobilitetens effekter är något som måste studeras över tid. Detta på grund av områdens status kvarstår över längre tidsperioder vilket gör mindre förändringar från år till år är av mindre signifikans.
