Studie II. “Being good or evil”: Applying a common staff approach when caring for patients with psychiatric disease
RELEVANS FÖR OMVÅRDNAD SAMT BEHOV AV FORTSATT FORSKNING
Denna avhandling pekar på att ett personalgemensamt förhållningssätt inte är en del av en utformad vårdstrategi. Det är inte en medvetet utformad vårdplanering; istället framstår det som ett sätt att kontrollera en patient när vårdarna känner sig sårbara och pressad av patientens hållning och handlingr. Det är troligt att personalgemensamt förhållningssätt i Sverige är vanligt förekommande i all form av slutenvård och kommunal gruppboenden, men vanligast är det troligen i psykiatrisk slutenvård där en maktobalans mellan personal och patienter blir mer påtaglig, en obalans som belysts av Foucault (2006). I studie I-IV har vårdare och patienter konfirmerat att de är bekanta med situationer som inbegriper personalgemensamt förhållningssättet. Dock behövs forskning med annan vald metod för att bestämma i vad mån det är vanligt eller ej samt att bättre beskriva vad som kännetecknar de kontext som befrämjar eller motverkar förekomst av ett personalgemensamt förhållningssätt.
SLUTSATSER
En slutsats i denna studie är att sjuksköterskor och annan vårdpersonal behöver öka sin medvetenhet om sina attityder i de situationer då deras handlande mot en enskild patient styrs av ett personalgemensamt förhållningssätt. En annan slutsats är att vårdpersonalen också behöver involvera patienten i beslutsprocessen kring sin vård i större utsträckning att öka patientens delaktighet. Förhoppningsvis kan avhandlingens resultat bidra till ökad humanisering av psykiatrisk omvårdnad.
