9.4. Slutsats
Det finns många verktyg för hållbar stadsutveckling tillgängliga internationellt, men det saknas i dagsläget ett nationellt verktyg som tar ett helhetsgrepp på hållbar stadsutveckling. Vid val av verktyg är det viktigt att både ta hänsyn till verktygets systemperspektiv, hållbarhetsperspektiv och användarperspektiv för att få ett praktiskt användbart verktyg som leder till faktiska förändringar. I dagsläget används inte verktyg för hållbar stadsutveckling i någon större
utsträckning inom kommunal stadsplaneringsverksamhet. Det finns dock ett behov av verktyg i olika situationer men det finns en okunskap kring vilka hjälpmedel som finns att tillgå och vilka hållbarhetsrelaterade krav som kommunerna kan ställa. En verktygslåda med den struktur som presenteras tidigare i detta kapitel ger ökade möjligheter att nå en hållbar stadsutveckling i och med att den tar ett helhetsgrepp på hela stadsplaneringsprocessen från vision till konkret handling. På så sätt bidrar tillämpning av verktygslådan till att minimera städers miljöpåverkan och till att skapa långsiktigt hållbara städer.
