Denna litteraturstudie redovisar effekter av olika omvårdnadsåtgärder som delas in i teman

Anpassning av kost, Anpassning av miljö och Utbildning med målet att stödja näringsintaget

för personer med demenssjukdomar. Genom att matintaget sker på ett individanpassat och trevligt sätt, i miljöer som efterliknar hemmamiljö kan personer med demenssjukdom få ett fullgott näringsintag. Resultatet i denna studie påvisar att interventioner som tillskott av extra näring, igenkännbar miljö, musik, minnesträning och förändringar i arbetssätt kan vara positiva för nutritionsintaget. Studiens resultat är grundat i antagandet att vården har möjlighet att påverka personer med demenssjukdomars näringsintag till det bättre, med förutsättningen att det finns tydliga riktlinjer och forskning som stödjer åtgärderna. Genom ett personcentrerat förhållningssätt kan riktlinjerna appliceras på ett mer anpassat sätt vilket är positivt för både sjuksköterska och vårdtagare samt är väl förenligt med Hendersons behovsteori. Att få någon att äta och dricka är ett komplext problem. Det gäller inte bara för personer med demenssjukdomar utan för alla personer med diagnoser som försämrar

förmågan att försörja sig själva ur ett näringsperspektiv. Dessa patienter finns på samtliga instanser av vården. Därför är det viktigt att sjuksköterskor och annan vårdpersonal har kompetens och tar ansvar för omvårdnad i samband med måltidssituationer.
