INTERVIEW TWO

Ålder: 25 Kön: man

INTERVIEW ONE

Age: 24 years old Gender: Woman

When did your employment at Willys start? I have worked since May 2020. Around 6 months.

Are you employed at Willys today? In what form? Yes, started as a summer job but as I am a student full time I work extra when I have time.

In which store do you work? In the store, are you working in any special department? Or is it fluid? Erikslund, Västerås. I was directly hired as a part of the chasier team, so I knew from the beginning that I would work in that department. It what the cashier managers who led the interview I had. Later, I also started working in the “förbutik” at the store. Where we handle mail and fast food etc.

When you started your role, did you have any earlier experience of store work or other related? If yes, what type? How long? Did this help you when starting this role? In what way?

I have worked in a shoe store, as cashier in the fast-food industry and other service professions. This made me get into the cash systems at Willys very quickly. Other things I already felt comfortable with are how to talk to customers and how to behave in different situations. So that was nice.

Induction portal

Think back to when you had been confirmed to get the job, but not yet started your first day in the store. How did you feel before your first day at Willys? What kind of expectations did you have?

It was good to have done the digital thing before starting, to go through the core values of Willys. It made me get a better picture and prepare for Willys as a concept. Because even though the information was the same as in previous jobs, Willys as a store and organization was new to me. I had not shopped at Willys myself before as an example. So, it was rewarding to immediately get a picture of their visions and values. In connection with signing a contract, I was given access to induction, and the request that it would be good if it was done before my first day. I received logins and the like via email from my boss.

Did you conduct the digital learning material at the induction portal? If yes, when? Before your first day? Did you complete the course?

I completed the whole course directly and before my first day. How did you experience the portal?

I experienced it as good. Since I study marketing, I probably check a little extra on what it looks like, but I thought it was a good system. It was neat, simple, short and easy to read. It was clearly simple and clear to go through.

How did you conduct the course?

On my own computer from home, I had no problems getting into the portal and login in.

Did you interact with others though the induction tool? Example, your coach, manager or other co-workers? No, no more than that in some sections you would answer things. Then you could see what others wrote, and you understood that they are real people. But no contact with coach or boss, etc.

Did you feel like this education prepared you for your first day? In what way?

I think that the information about the Willys concept was the most valuable to me. What the company stands for, where it has simply ended up. A good foundation!

Did it change your expectations or feeling regarding your upcoming first day? Yes, I knew more clearly what kind of company I have been employed by and what I work for.

What did you feel was good about this education tool? What was good? Bad? Is there anything that you think is missing, or can be developed? It felt very general, but also understand why, because there are so many who start within the organization. I would have thought it was nice with a more personal part of the introduction, linked to the city or store I should start in. Location specific information. But it may be very difficult to implement in practice. Something that connects more personally, with the store and people that I was going to work with.

In store training

Tell me more about your first time at the Willys store

How was your first day at Willys? What did you do? How did it feel?

My cashier manager has been very supportive throughout the process, she met me and showed me around, showed where to store your lunch, how to heat food, stamp in stamp out and other things like that. We went through the store, which was good to see the warehouse and different departments. She showed the cash registers, functions, how to get the conveyor belt to work. Then I got to stand behind an experienced girl working in the cashier and watch, and later when I felt ready I got to do the work and she stood behind as support. The time to start feeling ready varies a lot for everyone, not very difficult for me I think .. because I had previous experience. I think it goes extra fast for us who started right then, because of covid-19. That the process was speeded up, but for me it has gone well. Always
