Dear Mr. Van Schaack:
On November 6 and 7. I went to Lake City. Colorado to evaluate cer-tain mining properties in that area offered to you by
Mr.
Eugene Talarico. Several claim groups are included but can be identified as follows:1. Belle of the East and Belle of the west claims located on the Slumgullion pass road. Owner is Mr. Joel Swank of Lake City. 2. W. C. Garlock patented claim. owned by E. C. Talarico and Dr. L. R. Sullivan of Grand J~ction. Colorado.
3. The unpatented Garlock #2. Old Gold 1 & 2 and Armitage #3. all near the hI. C. Garlock claim about 1 mile south of Lake City. and the Buckhorn. Silver Dollar. Paymaster. and Town Bey unpatented claims in the Slaughter House gulch area north of Lake City. Dr. L. R. Sullivan and Eugene Talarico own 5l~ interest in this group; Ruth Lyke and Claude Hunt hold 49i
interest.
The Queen of the East and Queen of the West vein was examined in a road cut on the Slumgullion Pass hi~hway. One sample. Sample #1. was cut on the Belle of the East vein. In the road cut. it is vertical with 3 feet of me,n~anese stained vein on the left side. 1 foot of altered volcanics, and 6 inches of pyrite and quartz on the ri~ht making a total of 4t feet wioe. The vein strikes N 6SO E. An assay of this material showed 0.014 oz./ton gold and 1.7 oz./ton silver.
A s6cond sample was taken across
a
3t foot vein in the face of the Grove aoit immediately below the end line of the W. C. Garlock claim. This location was shown by Mr. Talarico because the mineralization and exposure was better than anything he knew on the W. C. Garlock claim.
Sincerely yours.
Mr. Henry C. Van sehaaek, Dr. November 30. 1968

-2-Where sampled. the east half (footwall) is hard vein quartz. The west half is fault gouge and quartz with some pyrite. The pyrite is the only metallio mineral present.at this location, further back down the drift there were traces of lead and copper. The vein is erratic. There was a little stoping (removal of ore), but so little the work of tunnel driving and mininp' was probably done at a loss. The sample, #2, taken at the adit faoe assayed 0.006 oz. of gold per ton and 0.26 oz. silver per ton.
Mr. Talarioo stated that the mineralization on the Slaughter house P'Uloh area was too weak to warrant investigation. so this area was not visitecl.
Based on the appearence of the veins seen, the history of the dis-trict. and particularly the very low assays on the two samples taken, I do not believe this submittal 1s worth any further consideration.
