Instructions

The following categories are rated using a semi structured interview. Note that only reported behavior, i.e. things that has actually happened (verbally or physically) should be used in each category. Aggressive thoughts, attitudes and fantasies do not count. Rate the prevalence of aggression during the past month in the informant’s life.

0 = no occurrences

1 = one event

2 = two or three events

3 = four to nine events

4 = ten or more events

5 = more events than can be counted

Categories

1. Verbal aggression (i.e. verbal conflicts, arguments involving angry voices/ cursing/ insults/

threats)

2. Indirect aggression (aggression directed towards inanimate objects, for example to

hit/throw/break things like windows, plates, phones etc)

3. Non-specific fighting (e.g. getting into a physical conflict with someone or some ones whether or

not instigated by the subject)

4. Physical assault against people (with evidence of intent to harm, whether or not in combination with fighting, including violence towards animals/pets)

5. Rage (i.e. behavioural expressions of frustration, you scream and shout, you throw things etc)

6 a. Self- harming behaviour (Self-directed attacks, i.e. with aim to harm oneself but not to commit suicide)

6 b. Suicide attempts

7. School disciplinary problems (i.e. suspensions, reprimands from teachers etc)

8. Problems with supervisors, prison officers (e.g. behavioural outbursts in reaction to authorities, warnings due to aggressive/impulsive behaviour).

9. Antisocial behaviour not including the involvement of prison officers (e.g. cheating, deceitfulness,

sexual adventure, conduct toward others’ rights).

10. Antisocial behaviour involving prison officers (e.g. conflicts with prison regulations and the system,

conflict with prison officers, leading to sanctions)

Please, read the following questions and indicate how often the events have occurred during the past month, using the scale from 0-5 from the example showed below. Do not include fantasies or thoughts that haven’t lead to actual action.

0 = no occurrences

1 = one event

1. Had anger outbursts (for example shouting, slamming doors, throwing things) when You have been irritated to breaking point.

2. Been involved in fights with people.

3. Been involved in verbal conflicts, quarrels or shouted at other people

4. Intentionally assaulting a person (or an animal)

5. Intentionally hitting or breaking an object (for example a window, a phone or something similar) in anger.

6a. Intentionally tried to cause physical harm to yourself when being angry or upset.

6b. Intentionally tried to kill yourself when being angry or upset. 7. Had problems with your behaviour in school leading to disciplining,

suspension or been told to leave the room.

8. Had problems with foremen, prison officers or inspectors leading to warnings, reports, retracted privileges or other kind of sanctions due to aggressive/impulsive behaviour

9. Had difficulties or been in conflicts with other people due to lies, thefts, debts, drugs, sexual relationships or harassments of others.

10. Had problems with the law, the Prison Service rules/ regulation or with staff leading to reports, retracted leave of absence or privileges, solitary of confinement, transfer to another prison or other kinds of sanctions.
