SP Quality On-Line is software which automatically classifies logs at the measuring station or saw-intake at sawmills based on data from existing 3D log scan-ners.

When SP Quality On-Line is used at the measuring station the logs can be quality graded. When SP Quality On-Line is used in the saw-intake, a sawmill using dynamic sawing patterns can optimize the sawing patterns according to log quality and/or log type.

Grade your logs

SP Quality On-Line allows you to grade the log based on the quality of the log and/or log type (butt, middle or top log), so that you can use it for the right products.

Another possibility with SP Quality On-Line is to use wane optimizing. If the log has a lower quality it is possible to optimize the saw setup according to the wane rules for this grade, thus resulting in a higher volume and value yield. Simultaneously, high quality logs can be sawn to minimize the risk that the resulting boards are downgra-ded due to wane.

How it works

SP Quality On-Line works on a separate computer to which the scanner sends data describing the log shape. SP Wood Technology has developed a technology platform that provides smooth and reliable communication with most existing 3D scanners.

Data is analyzed using multivariate mathematical models. After processing the data, the decision concerning log type and/or log quality is sent back to the control system. The sawmill has possibilities to adjust the thresholds for different grades to control the volume and quality yield. Experience from users of SP Quality On-Line shows that 75-95% of the logs are correctly graded according to log type. The hit rate depends on diameter and the accuracy of your 3D scanner.
