Dear University community,
By now, you are likely aware that a new strain of coronavirus, first detected in China, has reached the United States. Colorado State University is closely monitoring and following the coronavirus guidance as outlined by public health experts, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We are in daily communication with health department experts at Larimer County and in the state office.
As mentioned in our email last week (you can read that here: https://safety.colostate.edu/coronavirus-email-to-campus-jan-27-655-a-m/), we’ve had protocols in place as a university since Jan. 14.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services implemented new guidelines this weekend for anyone returning from China:

These guidelines require anyone who is arriving from travel to China to self-isolate or be in quarantine for 14 days – the incubation period for this virus - and to monitor their health.
Working with health department experts, we have implemented these guidelines for quarantining individuals who have returned from China on travel affiliated with the university, following criteria developed by the federal government.
Please note that while CSU keeps track of students, faculty and staff who are traveling as employees or students of the university for business, research or academic purposes, we do not track vacation or personal travel among our students, faculty or staff, or travel for programs unaffiliated with CSU. We ask students, faculty and staff who have returned from China to the United States on or since Jan. 17 to adhere to the federal guidelines and take the following steps.
If you are a student and you have returned from China within two weeks, please contact the CSU Health Network at (970) 491-7121

If you have not been in east Asia or southeast Asia since early January, your risk of having the virus is very low.
It is important to know that it is cold and flu season; please do not assume that someone who is sick or wearing a mask has coronavirus. Individuals may choose to wear a mask for a variety of reasons, and may wear one even when they do not have a respiratory illness.
To avoid the spread of all respiratory viruses including the flu, you are advised to take the following common-sense precautions: Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or use hand sanitizer
Avoid close contact with people who are sick Remain at home if you are sick
Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue or the inside of your elbow
