NEWS RELEASE
1973 INITIAL BEET PAYMENT
Growers in the Loveland Factory district of The Great Western Sugar Company will receive the initial 1973 sugarbeet payment of $3,174,063 on November 20th, according to Lowell Giauque, Loveland Agricultural Manager. In addition, by the first of the year Sugar Act payments of approximately $397,200 will be paid to Loveland growers for the 1973 crop. This payment, which will be about $3.50 1p0re per ton than was paid on the firtt payment on the 1972 crop, will cover about 99.7 per cent of the Loveland tonnage which was delivered by November 4th. The 1973 crop turned out to be very successful considering the adverse spring weather conditions that prevailed. Growers harvested a total of 10,200 acres and produced a yield of 17.04 tons per acre and a sugar content of nearly 17 per cent.
On the basis of average yields for the district, the 1973 beet crop produced a gross return of about $349.50 per acre in the initial payment and the Sugar Act payment to Loveland growers. The harvest season was one of the best that growers have ex-perienced with good weather and soil conditions for harvesting. Growers are to be commended for the excellent job of harvesting and delivering this crop.
A great deal of fall preparation of land for the 1974 crop has been done at this time and growers are now getting back to fall plowing and land preparation following the recent snow storm.
