Rituals, places of power and processes of religious change in Yucatec Maya Landscapes.

This paper explores how rituals of power in mainly Yucatec Maya sources are related to certain places of power that have impacted religious processes of change in the Yucatec Maya landscape. Some of the places are bearers of meaning that still today communicate spirituality and ritual power. Early Colonial documents and documents written by the Yucatec Maya themselves such as the Books of Chilam Balam will form the empirical base for this paper, as well as experiences from recent fieldwork.
