DIRECTIOlTS FOR CAMPAIGN WATER ANALYSIS REPORT
( Refer to chapter l? of the Methods of Analysis for information
regard-(
ing the samples and analytical work required.
The complete report (boun~) should consist of a.title page, followed by
a "Table of Contents" page, and then by the printed forms1 numbered consecutively,
on which the analyses of the waters are reported (Form 443). Put together the
analyses in the following order:
Raw Waters (including city, river, ditch, well, etc.)
'Nater in Main Water Supply Tank.
Battery Supply Water.
Water Used for Washing Carb. Presses (or Filters).
Water Used for Washing White Sugar.
Water Used for Washing Saccharate Filters.
Water in Boiler Feed Tank.
Water Returned Direct to Boilers.
Water in Boilers.
Miscellaneous waters not included above.
The title page should bear the f-0llowing designation:

Designation of those who are furnished copies should also be shown on
this page.
The nTable of contents" page shoul<i be designated as such and should
contain a list in numerical order of pagination, giving the name of each water
analyzed, and the number of the page on which the analysis is to be found.
Thus, for example,

Make the title of the water concise, but sufficiently descriptive to
identify the sample with~ut uncert~inty. Avoid such expressions as "Tank Water''r;
''Boiler Feed Water", ··'Boiler Water'', and ''Press Wash Water''; say instead "Water in
Main Water Supply Tank'', ''Water in Boiler Feed Tank'~ or ''Water Returned Direct to
Boilers", "Water in Bqilers", and "Water Used for Washing Carb. Presses."
Under ''Description of Sample" state what the sample represents, thus,
"Campaign average sample composed of two catch samples per week.'' The Great Western Sugar Comr,e.ny

Under "Source of Water" give as complete a description as possible of the
sources of the kinds of water which enter into its composition. Thus~ in the case
of "Battery Supply Water", for example, state that it is composed of the over-flow from the press wash water tank, of condensed water from the fut,h vapor heater, of
city water, and of tail pipe water fro~ the first condenser of the north evaporator~
If
the composition of th:! water varies during the campaign, give as completea
description as possible of such variations and include any other information that
may be of interest. Do not overlook the presence of over-flows.
In the case of "River" water, 11Ditch11 water and 11Well11 water, identify them by the name or location of the river and intake, or of the well.
Consult the Su,t-l:lrintendent in obtaining the necessary information regarding the source of all waters, and make this information as clear, complete and reliable as possible.
On the sheet carrying the analysis of •~water in Boilers", show a notation
of the total pounds of caustic soda, sodium phosphate, and other reagents added to the boilers during the run, also the average pounds per day to one decimal.
Detennine also pH, alkalinity and hardnes~ on th:! campaign composite sample of
"Water in Boilers" and make a notation on the analysis sheet in the following form:
