Par7cipants
48 children took part in the study. All children were between 5 – 7 years old at the ;me for tes;ng. They were matched for non-‐verbal intelligence and for sex.
1) Hearing children (n = 16) 2) Children with CI (n =17) 3) Children with HA (n = 15)
Background
The aim of the present study is to examine whether a computer-‐based phonological
interven;on program can improve phonological skills in hearing impaired and deaf children with cochlear implants and/or hearing-‐aids
Interven7on
Graphogame (Lyy;nen et al, 2009) is a computerized training program for phonemic differen;a;on. The mean of daily prac;ce was 7 min.
Behavioral Measures
Recep;ve and expressive phonological skills as well as leVer knowledge at B1, B2 and PI.
Recep;ve: Phonological representa;ons, Non word Discrimina;on and Phoneme Iden;fica;on.
Expressive: Picture Naming and Non word repe;;on (NWR)
LeVer knowledge: passive and ac;ve.
Results
Interven;on revealed posi;ve effects on accuracy of phoneme-‐grapheme correspondence for all children and a significant posi;ve change on phonological
processing skills for children with weak ini;al phonological skills.
Design
The study has two pretests and one posVest (B1, B2 and PI) with 4 weeks in between. Interven;on takes place between B2 and PI. Behavioral measures are obtained at all ;me points, Event Related Poten;als at B2 and PI.
