African literature occupies an increasingly visible place in the global literary scene. African writers have deepened our notions of nationhood and national boundaries. They have also demonstrated that, today any writer can reach out to an audience far beyond those boundaries.
The Göteborg Book Fair 2010 had Africa as its main theme. Sixty-eight African writers from 28 nations participated, as well as 15 African publishers.
This exhibition includes photographs of 20 of the African writers who visited Gothenburg. They write prose, poetry, drama and literature for children and the youth. They write in many different languages.
These many facets of African literature are repre- sented in this exhibition, which includes photographs representing the new generation of African writers as well as their established peers.
The Swedish-Mozambican photographer Sérgio Santimano has taken the photographs, Anita Theorell has written the presentations of the writers and the grap- hic design is made by Global Reporting AB. The exhibi- tion is organized by the Nordic Africa Institute.
