Hysterectomy is one of the most common operations in gynaecological surgery. Perioperative care and operation techniques have undergone major changes in recent decades. This dissertation deals with different aspects of perioperative care and recovery after hysterectomy, according to the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery program. The studies cover the clinical effects of the implementa-tion of this care, as well as the impact of the different diagnoses on outcome. The dissertation also presents and discusses the effect of different operation techniques with regard to biological aspects of recovery such as development of insulin resistance, inflammatory and hormonal reactions, and clinical recovery.
