The way leaders within the military force and rescue services handle their role as leaders as well as their own stress, their subordinates’ stress and also the stress of victims may have great impact in order to protect and save lives. My interest in these issues started already during my studies at Lund University. After my graduation as psychologist in 2002, I got the oppor-tunity to further develop this interest through an employment at Swedish National Defence College in Karlstad in combination with my doctoral studies at Örebro University. The findings of my research may be a valuable tool in selection, education, coaching and design of military and emergency response organizations.
