DOCTORAL THESIS
The military forces children to pick cotton. Rebels point their guns at workers in mineral mines. The process of dying carpets pollutes the water. The cotton is in your clothes. The mineral is in your cellphone.
The carpet is on your floor. You are paying for this. Do you feel moral responsibility?
This thesis combines three fields of research: psychology, social respon- sibility, and supply chain management. Doing so it offers a causal explanation to how the supply chain can constitute a contextual condi- tion that allows individuals to overlook their morality. Consequently, it explains why individuals can take part in and support behavior they would otherwise condemn.
