Sammanfattning Många patienter i livets slutskede upplever problem i

kommunikationen med vårdpersonalen. Detta leder till en otrygg patient och ger ett onödigt lidande. Sjuksköterskans beredskap att kommunicera med döende patienter är låg. Hon inser betydelsen av samtalet, men distanserar sig på grund av det obehag och den ångest patientens tillstånd väcker hos henne. Patientens möjligheter att uttrycka känslor och tankar kan hindras av sjuksköterskans beteende. Syftet med studien var att belysa faktorer som påverkar det vårdande samtalet med patienter i livets slut. Metoden bestod av granskning och analys av 17 vetenskapliga artiklar. Resultatet visade att

sjuksköterskans förmåga att aktivt lyssna, hennes personliga inställning till döden, utbildning i kommunikationsteknik, relation med patienten samt hennes ordval var faktorer som påverkade det vårdande samtalet. Ökad självkännedom och utbildning i

samtalsteknik medverkar till att patientens behov tillfredsställs. Utbildning i kommunikation och omvårdnadshandledning kan förbättra sjuksköterskans förmåga att föra vårdande samtal med patienter i livets slut.

Abstract Several patients at the end-of-life experience difficulties in

communication with the caring staff. This leads to an insecure patient and unnecessary suffering. The nurse is poorly prepared to

communicate with dying patients. She realizes the importance of the conversation but avoiding it because of the unpleasant feelings and anxiety the patients awaking. The patient’s possibilities to express their feelings and thoughts can be prevented by the pattern of behaviour of the nurse. The aim of this study was to illustrate the factors that affect the caring conversation with patients at the end-of-life. The method consisted of 17 peer-reviewed articles, which were examined and analysed. The findings of this study shows that the ability to listen, attitude to death, education in communication skills, nurse-patient relations and the choice of words affect the caring conversation. Increased self-awareness by the nurse and education in communication skills provides satisfaction of the patients needs. Education in communication and nursing supervising improves the nurses’ ability to make a caring conversation with patients at the end-of-life.
