• ETC, the Energy Technology Centre in Piteå, contributes its technical expertise
• Preem is responsible for Bio-DME distribution and builds fuel stations in Sweden
• Total is responsible for fuel and lubricant specifications
• The project is financed by the participants, the EU and the Swedish Energy Agency

Fuel Distribution
• Four filling stations dedicated for the 10 DME trucks in Sweden
• Based on existing LPG technology modified for DME
• Safety regulations based on LPG
• Total investment about 200.000 Euro per Filling Station

Summary
• More than one HD fuel in the future
• BioDME highest scoring alternative fuel from the JRC / Concawe study – High CO2 reduction, energy efficient, cost efficient
• DME as a vehicle fuel is being demonstrated in the BioDME project
• Bigger threshold to introduce new fuel (compared to ”drop-in”)
• Need long term regulatory framework designed to promote the best alternative fuels
• Society should consider total cost – balance initial investment and
”operating” cost
• All new fuels need stable initial support to build local/regional markets
• DME has potential to become an important energy carrier for the future
Current Status of Domsjö Project
• Domsjö mill liquor gasified successfully in DP-1, Piteå
• Investment support of 500 MMSEK granted by Swedish Energy Agency Sept 2009 and finally approved by EU’s DG Competition 1Q 2011
• Feasibility report completed (March 2010)
• Technology for Gas Purification and MeOH/DME Synthesis selected
• Front-end Engineering Design (FEED) scheduled for Q4-2011 to Q4-2012 for final investment decision in Q1 2013.
• Planned production start 2015, 100 000 ton DME/year or 140 000 ton MeOH/year
